Singing

The balance of vocal health and aesthetic freedom is central to Shamara’s teaching. Lessons provide students with the tools to achieve personal vocal goals and experience the joy of singing.

Private lessons assist students to grow their own repertoire of music they love, improve pitch and expand vocal range. Sessions also address vocal nuances such as vocal quality, connected sound (consistency of tone with no apparent breaks), agility and developing the student’s flexibility to sing wherever the emotion of the song takes them. Depending on the student’s needs and goals, classes are designed accordingly and are available on a weekly, fortnightly or intermittent schedule.

Group singing classes explore various musical styles such as early music, classical, contemporary, folk, gospel, chant, therapeutic and world music.  Sessions are tailored for the group as needed. Often we begin by warming up the body and the voice, and close with guided improvisation to leave us feeling refreshed and inspired.

Harp

With the simplest plucking of harp strings, resonance builds around the harpist like a cradle of sound. From your very first lessons, playing harp has a calming, peaceful and uplifting effect.

Swan Harp Studios makes harp playing a joy, integrating mindful movement with traditional Salzedo harp technique, suitable for teens and adults. Classes can also be tailored for students’ specific needs on pedal and lever harp, lap harp, double strung harp, Reverie harp and lyre.

Piano

Simply Music is an entry-level, Australian-developed piano and keyboard program that offers a breakthrough in music education. This unique method has children, teens, adults and seniors improvising and playing great sounding classical, contemporary, blues and accompaniment pieces – immediately – from their very first lessons.

In stark contrast to traditional methods that require students to learn music-reading as the means of learning to play, Simply Music teachers temporarily delay music-reading and introduce a revolutionary, “playing-based” methodology.

This unique approach integrates body and mind, is fun, and builds confidence. Learning piano with Simply Music means students immerse in the experience of playing a wide variety of repertoire before music reading is introduced.  I combine my traditional training with the Simply Music method and learning strategies to guide students at all levels of age and ability.
